Willow Docs

Willow Docs is the Willow Docs MCP server: a public, read-only server that lets AI tools search and read this documentation. Anyone can connect it to their own AI tool directly. Adding it to your gateway instead gives it to your whole organization at once, through the Willow connection people already have, and governs it like any other server: you choose which groups and toolkits get it, and its tool calls show up in your logs.

It exposes three read-only tools:

ToolWhat it does
search_docsSearches the docs and returns matching pages with a URL and snippet.
get_docReturns the full Markdown of a page.
list_docsLists pages with a one-line description of each.

The server needs no credentials, and every tool only reads public documentation.

Choose a docs scope

You can limit the server to the parts of the docs your users need. Pick the scope when you add the server:

Docs scopeEndpointGood for
All docshttps://docs.withwillow.ai/mcpAdmins and mixed audiences
Admin guideshttps://docs.withwillow.ai/mcp?scopes=adminAdmins configuring Willow
User guideshttps://docs.withwillow.ai/mcp?scopes=userEnd users connecting AI tools and using skills, toolkits, and the CLI
API referencehttps://docs.withwillow.ai/mcp?scopes=apiAgents and automations that call the Willow Admin API

The picker also offers each pair of scopes, such as Admin guides and API reference. To give different groups different scopes, add the server once per scope and attach each copy to the groups that need it.

Setting up

  1. Go to Build > MCP Servers > Add MCP Server and search for Willow Docs. It appears on the MCP Registry tab with an Official badge.
  2. Hover over the card and select Use.
  3. In the Configure dialog, choose a Docs scope. The endpoint in the configuration updates to match. There are no credentials to enter, because the server is public.
  4. Select Create.
  5. On the server's Tools tab, select Sync Tools and check that the three tools are enabled. See Manage Tools.
  6. Attach the server to the groups or toolkits that should have it.

Users in those groups get the tools through their existing Willow connection, with nothing to configure on their side.

Troubleshooting

get_doc says a page is outside the docs this server serves. The page belongs to a section the server's scope excludes, for example an admin guide on a server scoped to user. Widen the scope by editing the server's endpoint, or add a second copy of the server with the other scope.

Tool sync fails with Unknown docs scope. The endpoint's scopes value has a typo. Valid scopes are admin, user, and api, separated by commas.
