Create and Configure a Group

A group is the unit Willow grants access through. Creating one is quick; the work is in what you put in it. Open Manage > Groups to start.

Prerequisites

You need:

  • admin access to Willow
  • the users, MCP servers, toolkits, or skills you plan to assign

Create a group

  1. Open Manage > Groups.
  2. Select Add Group.
  3. Enter a Name.
  4. Optionally expand Advanced Settings to set the group's behavior on creation. You can also change these later. See Advanced Settings.
  5. Select Create.

A new group is empty and grants nothing. Add users and assign resources next.

Add users to a group

  1. Select the ... menu on the group's row.
  2. Select Edit Users.
  3. Select the users to include, using the search box to filter a long list.
  4. Select Done.

Access follows immediately from membership. Machine users are added the same way; see Machine Users.

You can also change a single user's groups from the Users page, which is easier when you are onboarding one person rather than filling one group.

Assign MCP servers, toolkits, and skills

Each resource type has its own action on the ... menu:

  • Edit MCP Servers
  • Edit Toolkits
  • Edit Skills

Select the action, choose the resources to assign, then confirm. Members of the group can reach whatever is assigned here, and a user in several groups gets the union of them all.

To confirm what a specific person ends up with, use View Access on the Users page rather than adding up groups by hand.

Assign group admins

Group admins hold capabilities over one group only. For what each role can do, see Group admin roles.

  1. Select the ... menu on the group's row, then Edit Admins. You can also select the pencil in the row's Admins cell.
  2. Search for a user under Add Users and select Add.
  3. Choose their role. New admins default to Viewer.
  4. Select Save.

Your changes are not applied until you save. Select Capabilities in the dialog for a summary of what each role grants.

Rename or delete a group

Select Settings on the ... menu to rename a group or change its Advanced Settings, then select Save.

Select Delete to remove the group.

caution

Deleting a group removes the access it was granting. Members lose whatever reached them through it, unless another group grants the same thing.
