Set Up Your First Assistant

Scout's setup takes you from a new account to an assistant that can use your apps in five steps. It opens by itself after you sign up. To set up another assistant later, click New agent in the sidebar.

You'll need the assistant open in another tab or on your phone: step 4 has you send it a message, or add Scout to it.

Step 1: Pick your assistant

Which personal assistant are you using? Pick Instinct, Muse, Grok Bot or Dots. Each one connects differently; see Personal assistants.

You can connect each assistant once. One that's already connected shows Connected and can't be picked; to connect it again, delete its agent first (see Delete the agent).

Step 2: Pick your apps

What do you want to connect? Pick up to 3 apps, such as Gmail, Google Calendar or Slack. You can add more later from the assistant's page. See Apps for what each one starts with.

Step 3: Connect your apps and choose what it can do

Click Connect on each app and sign in on the app's own page. Willow keeps your sign-ins; the assistant never sees a password or key. You need at least one app connected to go on.

Each app starts with a set of tools already chosen, the safest way: reading runs freely, and anything that changes your data needs a session or your approval. To change it, click Manage access and pick, for each tool:

OptionWhat happens
DisabledThe assistant can't use it at all.
Always allowThe assistant runs it right away, without asking you. Best for reading.
Require sessionThe assistant asks you once, then runs it freely for the session length (30 minutes to start).
Always askYou approve every single call before it runs.

Step 4: Connect your assistant

The steps depend on the assistant:

AssistantWhat you do
InstinctSend it a message, then give it the password through its vault link.
MuseSend it a message with its server URL, then allow it in Willow.
Grok BotPaste a message with its server URL in your chat, then allow it in Willow.
DotsAdd Scout to Dots as a plugin, then allow it in Willow.

Each step moves on by itself once the assistant gets there. The last one is to ask the assistant for something: the setup suggests a prompt for each app you picked, like "Read my last email". If the assistant needs your OK, the request shows up right on the page.

If the assistant already did a step, click It already did? Skip this step.

Step 5: Get notified

The last step, headed with your agent's name and "is ready, and safe", lists what Willow set up to keep it safe, such as:

  • Asks you before it changes any of your data
  • Signs in without API keys, so you can revoke access anytime
  • Blocks prompt injection in what tools send back
  • Logs everything the assistant runs

Under Get push notifications, turn on notifications so you can approve with a tap:

  • On this computer: click Turn on here.
  • On your phone: scan the code with your camera, sign in and allow notifications. See Approve from your phone.

Click Finish, or Skip for now to do it later from Approvals.

What's next

Your assistant has its own page in Scout, under Personal assistants in the sidebar. From there you add apps, change what each tool may do, and see everything it runs. See Your assistant's page.
