GitHub
Your assistant searches your repositories, code and issues, and reads files. Opening a pull request waits for your OK.
Connect GitHub
- In the setup: pick GitHub under What do you want to connect?, then click Connect on it in the next step.
- Later: on your assistant's page, under Connectors, click Add and pick GitHub. Then click Connect on its card.
Sign in with your GitHub account on its own sign-in page. Every call runs as you, and Willow keeps the sign-in: your assistant never sees it.
You can also sign in with a personal access token: click the sign-in chip on the card and pick API key. OAuth is the safer choice and keeps the safety score up.
What it starts with
GitHub starts with these tools on, set up the safe way. Every other tool starts off.
| Tool | Name in MCP | Starts as |
|---|---|---|
| Search repositories | search_repositories | Use freely |
| Get repository | get_repository | Use freely |
| Get file contents | get_file_contents | Use freely |
| List branches | list_branches | Use freely |
| Search code | search_code | Use freely |
| Search issues | search_issues | Use freely |
| Get issue | get_issue | Use freely |
| Create pull request | create_pull_request | Ask Each Time |
In the setup, these read Always allow, Require session and Always ask. To change one, or turn on more, open your assistant's page and click the arrow on GitHub's card. See Apps and tools.
Try asking
- "Which pull requests are waiting for me?"
Good to know
- The assistant reaches every repository your GitHub account can, including your organizations' private ones.
