Grok Bot
Grok uses your agent's tools as a remote MCP server. Grok connects with OAuth: it sends you to Sprout, you sign in the same way you always do (Google, GitHub, or email and password) and allow it. Everything then runs as you, through Willow's gateway.
Before you start, give access from the agent's Overview tab.
Add it to Grok
After Create access, Sprout shows the Server URL: the agent's private MCP server, https://sprout.withwillow.ai/api/mcp/<key>.
- In Grok, add a remote MCP server with that URL. There's no password or header to copy.
- Grok opens Sprout. Sign in with your Sprout account if you aren't already.
- Sprout asks whether to connect Grok to the agent. Check the agent's name, then click Allow.
Grok is now connected. The agent's overview shows when it last connected, and the Logs tab lists each connection.
Only the agent's owner can allow Grok. If you're signed in to another Sprout account, click Use another account.
Sessions and approvals
Besides your agent's tools, Grok gets a few tools of its own:
- unlock_session: asks you for a session and gives Grok a short link to show you. Open it signed in to Sprout and tap Approve session. The tools set to Require Session then work for the session length you chose.
- check_approval: checks whether you answered a request. A tool set to Ask Each Time gives Grok a link too; once you approve, Grok checks back to get the result. See Approve tool calls.
- read_skill: reads one of the agent's skills.
You don't have to tell Grok you approved: its next tool call picks the session up. If you set up authenticator codes, you can give Grok a 6-digit code instead, and it approves at once.
If nobody approves within 30 minutes, the request lapses and Grok can ask again.
Disconnect Grok
- Sign Grok out on the overview, or under Settings > Access, ends every Grok connection to the agent. Grok has to connect again, and you allow it again.
- Stop access on the overview signs Grok out and keeps it out until you click Give access again.
- Access also ends when it expires, after the time you chose under Settings > Access > Access expires after.
Troubleshooting
| Grok gets | What to do |
|---|---|
| "This Grok Bot belongs to another account" | You signed in to Sprout with a different account. Click Use another account and sign in as the agent's owner. |
| "stopped or renewed this access" | You stopped access or signed Grok out. Give access again if needed, then connect Grok again. |
| "This access expired" | Click Give access again on the overview, then connect Grok again. |
| A tool can't run | Connect that app on the agent's Connectors tab, or approve a session. |
To move Grok to a new address, click New URL under Settings > Access, then add the new URL to Grok and connect again.
